This award recognises the differing needs of sea kayakers from other kayaking disciplines. As with the other 3 star courses, the emphasis of this 1 day course will now be on demonstrating applied skills in the real environment.
The day will start with a look at equipment and boats. We will then spend the rest of the day on the water practising the appropriate personal paddling skills, safety & rescue skills, leadership, group awareness and underpinning theoretical knowledge for the 3 Star Assessment. The assessment is conducted via task setting, observation and discussion in a friendly and supportive atmosphere We hope to complete this training before returning to the campsite about 5pm.
This course will cover personal paddling, safety & rescue skills, group leadership skills and appropriate theory.
We understand that everyone learns differently and we adapt our teaching style to ensure that all participants get the most out of the courses.
Trainees should be able to demonstrate a consistent 2 Star Kayak standard of performance as a minimum to be on this course.
Holders of this award will have to demonstrate the skills and knowledge to be an effective member of a group in sheltered sea conditions, with winds up to Force 3. This award is a requirement for 4 Star Sea Kayak training.
Greene Adventures 3 Star courses are normally run from Brighouse Bay Kirkcudbright, with wind up to Force 3. If the weather is unkind to us we will relocate to Loch Ken for practical work.
We are happy to organise and run courses at a venue of your choice.
